Our Firm
Acuity Medical Law is a new law firm based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, primarily serving Atlantic Canada. The firm was founded by Dr. Aris Lavranos, a practicing emergency physician and licensed attorney. We specialize in taking on complex medical malpractice cases as well as cases in injury law and contract disputes. We also offer consulting services and expert testimony to other law firms across Canada.
The firm’s guiding philosophical principles are Aristotle’s three pillars of rhetoric: Logos, Ethos, and Pathos.
Logos
Logos is the foundation of any successful legal argument. In medical malpractice litigation, the logic and competence of your counsel’s argument is everything. Medicine is a complex field, and translating that complexity into a compelling and coherent legal narrative requires both intellectual rigour and deep familiarity with medical standards of care, clinical evidence, and expert testimony. At Acuity Medical Law, we build cases that are analytically airtight, grounded in the facts, and constructed with the precision and strategic clarity that serious litigation demands. Our clients deserve counsel who can command the evidentiary record and articulate their claim with force and credibility before judges, opposing counsel, and experts alike.
Ethos
Ethos speaks to the character and integrity of the lawyers who stand beside you. In a field as consequential as medical malpractice law, the ethical conduct of your counsel is not merely a professional obligation but a reflection of the trust you place in us at one of the most vulnerable moments of your life. We hold ourselves to the highest standards of honesty, transparency, and professionalism in every aspect of our practice, from how we communicate with you to how we conduct ourselves in proceedings. Our reputation is built on principled advocacy, and we believe that doing right by our clients and doing right by the law are never in conflict.
Pathos
Pathos is our recognition that behind every legal file is a human being who has suffered. Medical harm is not abstract. It disrupts lives, undermines health, strains families, and can leave lasting physical and psychological consequences that no settlement can fully undo. At Acuity Medical Law, we approach each client’s story with genuine empathy and a commitment to ensuring that their experience of harm is understood, respected, and powerfully conveyed throughout the litigation process. We believe that the law is most effective when it is animated by compassion, and we carry that conviction into every case we take.
